UGC NET December 2024 Exam: Short Description
University Grants Commission (UGC)
The National Testing Agency (NTA), entrusted by the University Grants Commission (UGC), conducts the UGC-NET exam to determine the eligibility of Indian nationals for:
Award of Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) and appointment as Assistant Professor.
Appointment as Assistant Professor and admission to Ph.D. programs.
Admission to Ph.D. programs only in Indian universities and colleges.
The UGC-NET December 2024 will be held by the NTA in Computer-Based Test (CBT) mode across 85 subjects.

General/Unreserved/General-EWS: Master’s Degree with at least 55% marks (without rounding off).
OBC-NCL/SC/ST/PwD/Third Gender: Master’s Degree with at least 50% marks (without rounding off).
Candidates pursuing or awaiting results of their Master’s Degree can apply provisionally but must fulfill the criteria within two years (JRF) or one year (Ph.D. only).
Ph.D. holders who completed their Master’s before September 19, 1991, are eligible for a 5% mark relaxation.
2. Special Relaxations and Provisions
Third-gender candidates receive the same relaxations as SC/ST/PwD.
Candidates with four-year undergraduate degrees and 75% aggregate (or equivalent grade) can apply. SC/ST/OBC-NCL/EWS candidates get a 5% relaxation.
No document submission is required during registration; candidates must ensure eligibility to avoid disqualification.
3. Instructions for Appearing in the Test
Candidates must choose the subject of their post-graduation or a related subject.
Those pursuing a four-year bachelor’s degree can appear provisionally but must meet Ph.D. eligibility within specified timeframes.
4. Exemption for Assistant Professor
Candidates qualifying for NET/SET/SLET before 1989 or SET before 1 June 2002 are exempt from NET.
SET qualified after 1 June 2002 applies only within the state of qualification.
5. Age Limit
JRF: Maximum 30 years (as of January 1, 2025).
Relaxation:
5 years for OBC-NCL, SC/ST, PwD, Third Gender, and women.
Up to 5 years of research experience or armed forces service.
3 years for L.L.M. degree holders.
Assistant Professor: No upper age limit.
Ph.D. Admission: No upper age limit.

Important Instructions for UGC NET December 2024 Exam:
1.      Candidates must apply for UGC-NET December 2024 only through the online mode via the website https://ugcnet.nta.ac.in/. Applications submitted in any other mode will not be accepted.
2.      Submitting more than one application form is strictly prohibited.
3.      Follow the instructions provided in the information bulletin available on the NTA website. Noncompliance with the instructions will lead to disqualification.
4.      Ensure that the email address and mobile number provided in the application form are either your own or your parent’s/guardian’s. All communications from NTA will be sent to the registered email or mobile number.
