The DRDO Young Scientist Laboratory – Artificial Intelligence (DYSL-AI), operating under the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), Ministry of Defence, Government of India, has released an official notification inviting applications from young and meritorious Indian nationals for the award of Junior Research Fellowship (JRF).

DYSL-AI is a premier defence research laboratory dedicated to cutting-edge Artificial Intelligence research, including Machine Learning, Deep Learning, Natural Language Processing (NLP), Computer Vision, SLAM, and Reinforcement Learning. The laboratory works in close collaboration with leading academic institutions such as IITs, IISc Bengaluru, IIITs, and other eminent research organizations.

This fellowship offers a prestigious research-oriented career path, an excellent monthly stipend, exposure to real-world defence AI applications, and the possibility of upgrading from JRF to Senior Research Fellow (SRF) based on performance.

Desirable/Preferred Expertise

  • Strong fundamentals in problem solving, algorithms, and complexity analysis
  • Proficiency in Python / C++ / Java
  • Knowledge of Machine Learning & Deep Learning
  • Hands-on experience with PyTorch, TensorFlow, Keras, TensorRT, PyTorch Mobile
  • Specialized knowledge in any one of the following:
    • NLP / Speech Recognition / Machine Translation
    • Computer Vision & Generative Models
    • 3D Vision, SLAM & ROS
    • Reinforcement Learning

  • Fellowship is purely temporary
  • Does not confer any right for absorption into DRDO
  • The number of fellowships may change as per organisational needs

Age Limit

  • Maximum Age: 28 years as on the date of the interview

Q1. Is this a permanent job in DRDO?

No. This is a temporary Junior Research Fellowship, not a permanent DRDO position.

Q2. What is the monthly salary for DRDO JRF 2026?

₹37,000 per month plus HRA (currently 30%), totaling approximately ₹48,100 per month.

Q3. Is GATE mandatory for DRDO DYSL-AI JRF?

GATE is required for BE/B. Tech candidates, but ME/M. Tech and Basic Science PG with NET candidates are also eligible.
