The Directorate General of Shipping, Mumbai, under the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, Government of India has released an official recruitment notification dated 29th January 2025 for the engagement of a Radio Officer on a contractual basis. The posting will be at the DG COMM & LRIT Centre, Nav Bhavan, Ballard Estate, Mumbai, which functions 24×7. The selected candidate will work in rotational shifts (Morning, Evening, and Night) and will receive a consolidated remuneration of ₹7,80,000 per annum.

– Desirable: Graduation in any stream.
– Must hold one of the following eligibility criteria:
1. GMDSS CoC holders with a minimum 5 years’ experience as a Radio Officer.
2. Second Officers with Indian CoC and at least 3 years’ sea experience.
3. Indian Navy/Coast Guard personnel with a minimum of 6 years of service (including Agni Veer Scheme personnel).
– Proficiency in IT skills (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Data Analysis) required.

Note:

  • Age Limit: Preference for candidates below 50 years.
  • Age Relaxation: Can be considered for candidates with exceptional experience/domain expertise.
  • Cut-off Date for Age Calculation: As per the closing date of the application in September 2025.

The Radio Officer will play a key role in ensuring the smooth functioning of the DG COMM & LRIT Centre. The responsibilities include:

  • Manning the DG COMM & LRIT Centre during assigned shifts.
  • Supporting the Directorate General of Shipping and Marine Consultants in day-to-day operations.
  • Analyzing casualty reports from companies and preparing related documentation.
  • Compiling weekly and monthly performance reports of the DG COMM Centre.
  • Carrying out any other tasks assigned by the Nautical Surveyor (Casualty Branch).

The position requires round-the-clock commitment in rotational shifts, making it suitable for candidates accustomed to maritime and communication-based operations.


  • Consolidated Remuneration: ₹7,80,000/- per annum.
  • Mode: Contractual appointment through the Indian Register of Shipping (IRS).
  • Contract Renewal: Renewable annually based on satisfactory performance and government guidelines.
